New Year, New Identity, New Worries?

My visit to Japan, more specifically to Tokyo and nearby cities was hectic at best. The Japanese celebrate the holidays of Christmas and New Years Day differently, but it's still beautiful. I got to wear traditional clothing, enjoy glorious spreads of food, and present my new drugs to the company heads.

It wasn't all rosy though...

Yeah. I was required to undergo several aptitude tests to assure the company leaders that I was capable of the position I was given. With no official education past high school or so and a possible backlash from making me an orphan for no fucking reason, the corporates had plenty of making up to do. They also wanted to make sure they had plenty to turn on me in case I acted on those revenge urges of mine. My entire life was analyzed; blood and tissue samples were taken; the specs on my eyes and right arm were were scoped out; and I'm sure half those physicals were uncalled for.

Human rights be damned.
Sprout a genetically induced tail and ears in a lab,
and suddenly they spring a former hybrid experiment analysis clause on ya.

You KNOW they made that up.

Of course they did. They want fresh dirt. Outing the fact that I'm a hybrid is old news, so they need something deeper. I can trust that the black market drug creation won't be used against me...at least unless the company wants to be taken down by the World Union with me. I do have to watch my back more closely than ever though. Not to protect against enemies of Ashagi, but from Ashagi itself.

I did learn about myself and my parents however. I now have names to match to the faces I struggled so hard to remember and keep in my broken memories.

Marion and Ashley Dubois, ages 35 and 38.

The files still list them as double suicide, but I intend to comb through everything to learn why they really had my parents killed. My real name is not 609; it's Amara Micheline Dubois, which hints that I may have some French roots in my family tree. A prominent couple, Mother (Ashley) was a devote biochemist and Father (Marion) had background in various sciences, including zoology.

...and...
...get this....
She was a former scientist for the UAC Corporation, and he was a former UAC marine. High freakin' ranks too for both of them. My parents were...marines. Cruel, hybrid-hating, disregard for all non humankind marines. As far as I know, they both received honorable discharges from service before focusing on a family and their research.
WHAT?!

I came from UAC loins. I think I'm going to need therapy. Again.

Geez, if my parents could see me now, I wonder if they would still see me as their child. According to some reports, the subjects used  my mother's previous works included detained hybrids. It's not like this was anything new to me, but it was still troubling to see how closely I replicated my parents' legacies without knowing that much about them.

On a lighter note, I made my marriage to Adagio official, giving my side of the marital vows as soon as we saw each other again. No light, bells and whistles, just the two of us in my apartment with only the walls as witness.
It was a tearful but happy moment as we embraced,
just enjoying the fact we were united again

We didn't cry! Honest!

Adagio did most of the crying, which made me relax oddly enough. I don't think I've been that emotional with her before. After not seeing her for so long and finally voicing how I felt about her and this union, I think we've reached a mutual understanding of each other.

Oh stuff it. You were crying just as much on the inside.

Thank you for blabbing.

You still didn't admit the fact you weirded out by her clone...er, ness.
For someone who works with genetics and medicine,
you pick the oddest things to be creeped out by, ya know that?

Are you done?

No.
There's also the small amount of history that we know about our new wife.
I mean the telepathic superpower was found out two weeks ago and now she has a mom?!
What happened to being all test tube baby?!

You seem more bothered than this than I am. She said Dr. Parkin based her off of a woman named Tae, and frankly she has some of the traits mentioned.

You mean more bothered than you let yourself be, don't you Ms. Lying to Myself?
You are so not calm about this either. What's else is there?
A secret baby daddy?
Hidden hoard of mini ass-whippn' ballet troupe?

Now you are just being ridiculous. I trust Adagio, and I know there are some things she cannot come right out and tell me. We both have jobs which require confidentiality. Okay, yes, the surprises are a bit much, but it's kinda to be expected. no?

Yeah. The last one was just to keep ya on your toes, but at least you admit it.

Thank you. Please just let it go already.

Fine.
......
....I still think Adagio Dubois would rock.
Just rolls off the tongue wonderfully.

This I agree with.
